1. Use lip balm to soothe a sore nose due to a cold
2. Keep alcohol towelettes in your car or purse to wipe down a public telephone
3. Soak toothbrushes in peroxide and water between brushes
4. Soothe a canker sore by placing a wet black tea bag, which contains tannin, directly on the sore.
5. Use vegetable shortening as a lip balm
6. Bathe in Nestea to relieve sunburn pain.
7. Use Tabasco to relieve toothache pain.
8. Apple cider vinegar added to water and gargled is said to relieve the discomfort of sore throats   
9. Spa Treatment at Home
Wash face. While face is still wet rub in a dab of petroleum jelly. Continue wetting face until the jelly is spread evenly and doen't appear greasy. This is a great moisturizer and inexpensive.
10. Use hemoroid cream to reduce puffiness on face.
11. If you need to tighten the screws in your glasses, you use a bobby pin with the plastic tip removed.
12. Put a few drops of rubbing alcohol in your ear canal after swimming to prevent swimmers ear.
13. Use baby wipes to clean scrapes and cuts. Also soothes sunburns.
14. To stop itching under a cast, take an ordinary hair dryer, turn it on high/cool and blow air into the area between the skin and cast.
15. If an injury makes getting out of a car difficult, lay a plastic garbage bag or plastic sheet on the seat so the patient can slide across easier.
16. Keep a prescription label clean and legible by putting clear tape over it.
17. A drop of clear nail polish or instant bonding glue on the tops and bottoms of eye glass screws will keep them from falling out.
18. Keep compresses warm at bedside in a crock pot
19. If you need moist heat for an injury, microwave a moist towel for one minute, place over injury
20. If it is painful to hold a book or magazine, make a beanbag filled with plastic pellets to use as a lap tray. In can be slanted to the proper position
21. A pillowcase with plastic pellets inside is good for elevating a leg
22. Ginger ale rubbed gently on sunglasses will clean off smudges of suntan lotion
23. Attract an insect from an ear by shining a flashlight into the ear canal. Do this in a darkened room
24. To remove small splinters, apply white glue to the spot where it is embedded. Let dry, then peel off. Most stickers will come off with the glue.
25. Use an old lunchbox as a first aid kit to keep in your vehicle.
26. Rub a fabric softener sheet over fly-away hair to help keep it in its place.
27. To help regulate the amount of shampoo used, put it into a pump bottle.
28. Spray your panty hose with hairspray to stop the static cling.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Bath Salts: Epsom salt, food coloring, and potpourri oil. Combine the salt with a few drops each of food coloring and oil. Stir or shake until it is mixed and pour into jars. Cover and tie on a ribbon and instructions on how to use. Directions: One half cup of bath salts with a full tub of water. Soak and enjoy.
 
BEDTIME BATH JELLY

1/2 cup water
1 envelope unflavored gelatine (like knox)
1/2 cup liquid soap
6 drops lavender essential oil
Food coloring 2d red + 1d blue= violet(optional)

Heat the water until boiling and dissolve the gelatine in it.
Remove from heat, Stir gently and blend in 1/2 cup liquid soap,
do not whip the mixture or it could become foamy
Pour the mixture into a mason jar.Put in the refrigerator to
gel(solidify).

To use, place a small amount of jelly under running bath water.
 
 
Make your own Body Glitter for the holidays
Mix aloe vera gel and glitter together.
 

Honey Butter Lip Balm

Ingredients Needed:

  • 2 Teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Grated Beeswax or Beeswax Pellets
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Honey
  • Flavored Oil To Taste
  • 1 Vitamin E Capsule
Directions
 
Melt the oil, honey, wax and butter over low heat. Allow a few minutes to cool and then add the flavoring and contents of the Vitamin E capsule. Stir to blend and then pour into containers. If you would like a firmer lip balm, add a little more wax to the ingredient list.

Homemade Face Scrub
 
1/2 cup of oatmeal
3 tablespoons cornmeal
1 tablespoon salt
  Roll over the oatmeal with a rolling pin until it is crushed a bit. Mix it with the other ingredients. To use, wet about 2 tablespoons of mix in the palm of your hand and rub on face with a circular motion. Rinse
 
HOMEMADE COLD PACK
 
Needed
2  Plastic zip lock bags
Rubbing Alcohol
Water
 
Mix 1 part rubbing alcohol with 3 parts  water in one of the zipper
baggies. 
 
Squeeze the air out of the baggy and close the seal.  Place seal at
opposite
end of the other baggy and seal. This is a protective measure in case of leakage. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours.
 
Note:  You can make the Cold-Pack as small or as large as needed
as
long as you maintain the 1:3 ratio.  E.g. 2 cups Alcohol, 6 cups water
 
If it is too slushy, add more water and refreeze.
 
APPLICATION:
Take the Cold-Pack and wrap within a moist towel.  Place the pack where needed.  Cover with a dry towel.   Leave on the area for 15 - 20 minutes.  Check the skin
periodically for any signs of burning, for example: unblanchable
redness
after pressing down on the area for several seconds. You need to experience the following sensations to make the cold pack work. After you feel all four sensations you can put the pack away.

   Intense Pain
   Mild Warmth
  Numbness
