Notes for SIR ALEXANDER NATHANIEL BAKER:
Alexander, with daughter Elizabeth age 3 and Christine age 1 and his wife Elizabeth age 23, sailed
from London, arriving in Massachusetts on 18 April 1635 on the ship Elizabeth And Annie.
(Elma Baker, in the Rugged Trail pages 4 and 5 Volume 2, says the ship was filled with Alexander Baker's furniture,
etc, as well as that of Kenelm Winslow, and that he carried the name of Sir Alexander. They landed at the Plymouth Colony,
but being a Free Thinker, or Baptist, he didn't get on well with the Governor William Bradford, so soon moved up the coast
to Marshfield.)
He probably moved to Duxbury first where he had a land grant. Alexander took the oath of allegiance
on 29 April 1635.
Alexander and Elizabeth had 12 children, all but the first two baptized at the First Church of Boston.
Alexander and Elizabeth Baker were admitted to the church on 5 October 1645, when five of their children wer baptized, (the
third thru the seventh children) The other children were baptized later.
In London, Alexander had engaged in the manufacture of cordage, and soon after landing in America
became interested in shipping and commercial business and was a prominent and successful merchant.
Alexander bought a homestead in Boston on Boltt's Lane, which is Winter Street today; his widow sold
it to her son-in-law John Alger. It bound to the rear on John Wampass, the Indian, which today is the site of St. Paul's Cathedral
on Tremont Street in Boston.

white people to settle in that part of North Carolina. Bakersville was named for them. There was a dedication of a monument
and marker to the memory of Corporal David Baker 1749-1838: Founder of Bakersville, North Carolina at the Bakersville Old
